The A is 50-pound test monofilament fishing line. The D is a commercial string - classical guitar unwound nylon. The G is a commercial string - classical guitar wound G. The string choices required no changes to the nut/bridge channels. ![]() The "designated mandolin-victim" for this experiment is my Burgess flat-top (cedar top, walnut sides/back). So, it just seemed like a good idea at the time to do the same with a mandolin. ![]() Why do it at all? Well, have a handful of ukuleles, a tenor guitar and a tenor banjo all nylon'd. The latest has been to see if a mandolin can be equipped with nylon strings. Being retired means sometimes that you have the extra time to do foolish (or "unconventional") experiments. ![]()
